Frequently Asked Questions
The App-store rules do not allow to attach any driver to any application. There is no other technical way how to capture audio from *any* application than to use an audio driver. We developed a driver at very high system level (HAL - hardware abstraction layer) that shields the lower OS levels from any problems that could potentially occur in such virtual device. Thus, the driver is 100% safe from OS point of view (we do not use the kernel-extension type).
Most Mac primary displays have 3:4 aspect ratio while most TVs have 16:9 one. "16:9" button can be used to accomodate Mac ratio to TV ratio. Alternatively, you can use one of the user-defined profiles, uncheck "keep aspect ratio" and enter the width and height of the video to be cast to TV. The app will recalculate the Mac screen to that format.
The app uses hardware H.264 encoder. Intel has incorporated that feature into their 2010+ processors that Apple started using in 2011 and newer Mac models. Mirror Screen on Smart TV checks your Mac model and if is it older, it shows that warning. Please note that 2011+ Mac model is a prerequisite for the app.
Apple AppStore server that handles purchasing transactions usually responds in 3-5 secs. In rare situations, it can take longer (we have customers who reported ones of minutes). If that happens, please be patient. The purchasing cycle is depicted in Documentation/Full-Version Purchase chapter.
Please read Documentation/Lag section. You can't set 0 value. There is a certain minimal buffer lag value that can't be shortened. If you set a value below such minimal one, it will rather prolong the lag. Use "Set default values" to restore safe limits...
Audio driver is made up by the content of
ScreenADrv.driver directory located at this path:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/
Note that there are one very similar (however incorrect) path: /Users/user_name/Libary/Audio/Plug-Ins/
Problem can be that /Library directory is not, by Apple default, visible in Finder. Thus, we recommend to follow these steps:
1. Open
Finder window, go to Menu
Go, item
Go to Folder

2. Type the path and click
Go

3. Move the directory
ScreenADrv.driver into Trash, e.g. by right-button clicking on the directory name and chosing
Move To Trash...

4. Type your
password ...

5. And finally restart your Mac
If an active session does not finish correctly, it can happen. You can select "On app exit, set audio driver active on app init" switch in General tab of the app configuration.
Please read Documentation/UHD section. Max. peak bit rate is limited to 20Mbit/sec for the highest UHD *default* profile so that the data transfer does not cause buffering freezes in majority of Wi-Fi networks (without any presumptions wrt the Wi-Fi configurations).
You can always derive a user profile and increase "Avg. rate" & "Max. rate". 50+Mbit/sec rates can be easily achieved (but then it is recommended to connect your TV (not Mac) to the switch via cable).
That's why there is a 5-sec delay prior fuction activation. Once you click "Dim" button, you can, within the 5s delay, use CMD+Tab to switch to any window you play the film in and go there fullscreen. The same CMD+Tab needs to be used when you want to restore full brightness of the display.
Some older Sound bar models can have sometimes a short delay. You can use audio/video shift (buttons + / -) to compensate for it.
The app uses Apple AirPlay technical means that allow to forward media links to Apple TV. This app however does not rely on any extra hardware and instead extracts such links and restreams them.
Most live streams are generated dynamically - not only content segments but also playlists. Thus, it is necessary to play live links soon after their processing or reload them from web.
It depends on how developers (of any content-provider pages) distinguish between clicks and touches. Hold CMD key when clicking.
The app has a tool to auto stop videos after preset interval that is measured from the streaming start. That helps to save your battery. If you stream and, in parallel, browse and play a (different) media, such media is (also) stopped when the autostop is triggered. You can always switch auto stopping off.
Autoplay does not process media that are shorter than 10 secs (buffering would take longer). You can play them manually.
iOS browser uses different means to maximize playing video than desktop browser (iOS uses GPU overlay).
We did not intend to implement a full-flavor web browser. We believe that the app provides a reasonable tool how to play web videos on TV.
Simply because the app does not re-direct the media but download them and acts as a re-streamer. When you close the lid, you put your Mac on sleep and it can't re-stream the media.
